Members of Parliament from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Tuesday held a joint Parliamentary Group meeting to review the implementation of a 10-point agenda agreed upon by the two political formations.

Junet Mohamed confirmed the meeting, saying lawmakers from the two sides were assessing the progress made since the agenda was adopted and identifying areas that require further action.

“Ongoing joint ODM–UDA Parliamentary Group meeting reviewing implementation of the 10-point agenda,” Junet said in a brief update shared during the session.

The meeting comes as President William Ruto intensifies efforts to court leaders from ODM, a move widely seen as part of his broader political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In recent months, Ruto has increasingly reached out to ODM leaders, particularly in the Nyanza region, the political stronghold of party leader Raila Odinga. Political analysts say the engagement is aimed at consolidating support in regions that have traditionally backed the opposition.

The meeting also comes against the backdrop of growing internal tensions within ODM over the party’s direction and cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The divisions recently played out publicly after Edwin Sifuna and Oburu Odinga clashed over leadership and political strategy within the party.

Sifuna, who serves as ODM Secretary-General, has warned against moves that could weaken the party’s opposition role, insisting that ODM must remain firm in holding the government accountable.

On the other hand, Oburu Odinga has urged party members to remain united and support ongoing engagements meant to strengthen alliances and influence national policy.

The disagreements have exposed underlying divisions within the party as leaders weigh the benefits and risks of closer engagement with the government.

Despite the tensions, ODM lawmakers have continued participating in joint forums with UDA legislators, arguing that the discussions are focused on addressing national challenges affecting Kenyans.

Observers say the outcome of the ODM–UDA engagements could reshape political alliances in the coming years, particularly as the country slowly begins to shift attention toward the 2027 polls.
