Students at Kapsabet Girls High School were filled with excitement after William Ruto pledged Sh1 million to support the school in purchasing bread.
The President made the announcement during a visit to the institution while touring development projects across Nandi County.
The donation followed a brief address by a student leader who spoke on behalf of the learners and requested support from the Head of State.
While making the appeal, the student deliberately avoided specifying a particular need, saying the school had many challenges but would appreciate any assistance offered.
Her remarks caught the President’s attention, prompting him to praise her confidence and leadership while addressing the gathering.
Ruto referred to the student’s description of herself as the “small head girl of a great institution,” telling the audience that her speech had confirmed her leadership ability.
The President then announced that he would donate Sh1 million to help the school purchase bread for the students.
The announcement sparked loud cheers from learners and teachers gathered in the school hall, with many celebrating the unexpected support.
Ruto also encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and maintain discipline as they work toward achieving their academic goals.
During the same visit to the county, the President also delivered a new school bus to St Joseph’s Chepterit Girls High School in Mosop Constituency.
The bus is expected to help address transport challenges faced by the institution, particularly during school trips, co-curricular activities and other events.
Local leaders present at the event welcomed the President’s support to schools in the region, saying such contributions help improve the learning environment for students.
The visit formed part of the President’s broader development tour of the North Rift region, where he has been inspecting projects and engaging residents on government programmes related to education, infrastructure and economic growth.
However, for students at Kapsabet Girls, the highlight of the day remained the President’s donation, which they said would help improve their welfare and ensure more bread is available in the school dining hall.
