President William Ruto hosted Muslim leaders and faithful for an Iftar dinner at State House Mombasa, using the gathering to emphasise unity, inclusion and the role of religious communities in national development.
Speaking during the breaking of the fast in the holy month of Ramadan, Ruto said Kenya’s strength lies in its diversity and called for continued cooperation among communities.
“Our nation draws great strength from its diversity of faiths and cultures,” Ruto said. “It is through such shared moments that we reaffirm our commitment to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and the common good.”
The President commended the Muslim community for their contribution to the country’s social, economic and cultural progress, noting that their commitment to faith, family and community strengthens national cohesion.
“I commend the Muslim community for their continued contribution to the social, economic and cultural progress of our country,” he said. “Your dedication to faith, family and community remains an important pillar in the building of a more cohesive and prosperous Kenya.”
The Iftar meeting comes as the Kenya Kwanza administration intensifies political outreach across regions and communities, particularly in the Coast, a region that has historically been politically competitive.
Since taking office in 2022, Ruto has frequently engaged religious leaders across the country, often framing faith communities as key partners in promoting peace, moral values and social stability.
The Coast region has also been the focus of increased government attention amid growing political realignments and competition among leaders seeking to consolidate support ahead of future political contests.
During the event, leaders present emphasised the importance of dialogue and cooperation between the government and religious communities in promoting peace, tolerance and national unity.
