William Ruto has defended the recent arrest of officials at Nairobi Hospital, stating that he acted after receiving appeals from senior doctors and professionals at the institution.
The President said the hospital’s leadership had raised concerns over alleged attempts by fraudsters to take control of the facility, prompting him to step in.
“As President of the Republic of Kenya and patron of Nairobi Hospital, senior doctors and professionals approached me to save the hospital from conmen, fraudsters and charlatans,” he said.
Ruto maintained that the hospital, which he described as a premier medical institution, must be protected from mismanagement and illegal activities.
He confirmed that he had directed action against individuals allegedly involved in fraud, saying they would be removed from their positions and face prosecution.
“That is why I have instructed with clarity that all those involved in fraudulent activities will be removed, taken to court and charged,” he added.
The Head of State also dismissed criticism from opposition leaders who had condemned the arrests, urging them to focus on other matters.
He emphasised that the hospital is a public-serving institution and denied claims that it was at risk of being sold or taken over.
“There is no way I am going to allow Nairobi Hospital to be taken hostage by fraudsters. It will continue to serve the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.
The President pledged to safeguard the institution, vowing continued government intervention to ensure its integrity and service to the public.
