The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) today welcomed a delegation from the Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho for a study tour aimed at benchmarking electoral processes.
Led by Dr. Chelete Monyane, the Lesotho team was received by IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, who highlighted the value of collaboration among electoral bodies in sharing experiences, addressing challenges, and strengthening democratic systems.
During the visit, IEBC presented on legal and institutional frameworks, voter register management, results transmission, and the use of ICT in elections. The delegation showed particular interest in managing complex elections, seat allocation for special interest groups, risk management strategies, and how IEBC handles up to six simultaneous elections compared to Lesotho’s two.
The visitors will also meet political parties, parliamentary committees, and the judiciary to gain a broader understanding of Kenya’s electoral ecosystem. Both commissions reaffirmed their commitment to knowledge sharing, expressing optimism about enhancing electoral integrity across Africa.
