ODM Secretary General, Edwin W. Sifuna, has sharply criticized the government for what he described as “deeply misplaced priorities” following a fatal attack at Kenyatta National Hospital, exposing ongoing shortages of medical supplies and malfunctioning equipment.
Sifuna, a persistent critic of President William Ruto, condemned Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen’s claims of knowing personal details about political figures while failing to explain how an assailant accessed a public hospital and fatally stabbed patients.
“At the same time, Kenyatta Hospital continues to grapple with severe shortages of blood, test reagents, medicine, and even patients’ food, alongside recurring breakdowns of critical equipment such as CT scanners, dialysis units, and radiotherapy machines,” Sifuna said.
He accused Ruto, who serves as the hospital’s patron, of neglecting public healthcare in favor of ambitions to take over a private hospital.
“These are the issues that point us to deeply misplaced priorities and the fact that this government has totally lost its way,” Sifuna added, calling on authorities to secure hospitals and prioritize healthcare for ordinary Kenyans.
The attack has reignited public concern over security lapses and systemic deficiencies in public health facilities, with experts warning that continued neglect could have catastrophic consequences for patient safety and national health outcomes.
