President William Ruto has rolled out a series of development pledges and project launches in Kisii County as he continues his four-day tour of the Gusii region, reaffirming his administration’s focus on infrastructure, health, and economic empowerment.
During meetings with grassroots leaders at Kisii State Lodge, the President outlined key interventions aimed at accelerating development in the region, describing the initiatives as part of the government’s broader transformation agenda.
Among the highlights of the visit was a commitment to support ongoing and new development projects, including infrastructure upgrades, water systems, and health facilities, which State House officials say are intended to boost service delivery and economic activity in the region.
Ruto also held discussions with over 2,000 local leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties, where he reviewed ongoing projects and pledged continued government support for priority areas such as roads, housing, and agriculture.
The President’s tour has also seen him inspect and launch several development initiatives, including sporting infrastructure and education-related projects, as part of efforts to strengthen local economies and improve public services.
In addition, the government has been promoting ongoing programmes such as affordable housing, road upgrades, and agricultural subsidies, which are part of its broader “bottom-up” economic agenda targeting rural counties like Kisii.
The visit comes at a politically significant time, with the Gusii region increasingly becoming a key battleground as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election. Analysts say the development pledges are part of a wider strategy to consolidate support in opposition-leaning areas.
Local leaders who attended the engagements welcomed the projects but also urged faster implementation, warning that residents are increasingly demanding tangible results on the ground rather than repeated promises.
Ruto is expected to continue his tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties before concluding his visit later in the week, with more project inspections and public engagements scheduled.
