The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR 2026) exercise will end in 14 days, with the official closure set for Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The exercise, which began earlier this year as part of preparations for the 2027 General Election cycle, has been ongoing in phases across the country as the Commission seeks to update the voter register and capture new eligible voters.
The IEBC said more than 1.5 million new voters have been registered since the start of the exercise, with youth turnout accounting for a significant share of the registrations.
The Commission has urged eligible Kenyans who are yet to register as voters to take advantage of the remaining window, emphasizing that no extensions have been announced.
“Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (#ECVR2026) will end on Tuesday 28th April 2026. Register as a voter today,” the IEBC said in a public notice.
The electoral body said citizens do not need to travel to their home counties to register, noting that it has deployed “open kits” allowing registration from any centre nationwide.
“You do not need to travel to your home county to register. The Commission has deployed open kits, which allow a citizen to register as a voter from the registration center near you,” IEBC said.
However, the Commission noted that voter registration is currently suspended in areas preparing for by-elections or affected by ongoing election petitions. These include Porro Ward, Endo Ward, Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Ol Kalou Constituency, Malava Constituency, and Mbeere North Constituency.
The IEBC said the suspension is aimed at safeguarding electoral integrity in areas still undergoing legal and electoral processes.
The registration drive is being conducted under the theme “Deepening Democracy in Kenya Through Inclusive Voter Registration,” with the Commission urging youth and first-time voters to participate ahead of the 2027 General Election cycle.
