The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued a final appeal to eligible Kenyans to register as voters, announcing that the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise, dubbed #ECVR2026, will close in five days.
In a statement, the commission said the exercise will officially end on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, urging citizens to take advantage of the remaining window to secure their place in the electoral register.
“Register as a voter today,” the IEBC said, emphasizing that citizens do not need to travel to their home counties to participate. The commission explained that it has deployed mobile registration kits, allowing eligible voters to register at any designated center nationwide and be assigned to any polling station of their choice.
The IEBC further noted that voter registration is currently suspended in areas affected by electoral disputes and upcoming by-elections. These include Porro Ward, Endo Ward, Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Ol Kalou Constituency, Malava Constituency, and Mbeere North Constituency.
The commission said the suspension in these areas is intended to ensure electoral integrity while ongoing legal and electoral processes are concluded.
Under the theme “Deepening Democracy in Kenya Through Inclusive Voter Registration,” the IEBC said the exercise is designed to expand participation across all demographics, including youth, women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities.
The commission reiterated its commitment to inclusivity, stating that every eligible Kenyan should have the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s leadership.
Officials have in recent weeks intensified civic education and mobilization campaigns across counties, with field teams engaging residents in markets, towns, and rural areas to encourage registration.
As the deadline approaches, the IEBC is expected to increase outreach efforts in a bid to boost turnout and strengthen the credibility of the national voter register ahead of future elections.
