Huduma Centre–based voter registration has emerged as a key component of the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) intensifies outreach in Migori County.
During a visit to Migori, IEBC Commissioner Prof. Francis Aduol engaged clerks and officials stationed at the Huduma Centre in Migori Town, reviewing progress of voter registration services being offered at the facility.
The Commission said the Huduma Centre model is improving access to voter registration services by allowing citizens to register closer to where they live and work, without needing to travel long distances.
As part of his backstopping tour, Prof. Aduol also paid courtesy calls to Migori Governor Prof. Ochilo Ayacko and County Commissioner Mr. Kisilu Mutua. The two leaders pledged support for the exercise, committing to mobilise administrative structures to ensure all eligible voters are reached.
They said the collaboration between national and county leadership is critical in increasing voter registration numbers and strengthening democratic participation ahead of future elections.
The IEBC commissioner also held stakeholder engagements with local groups, including boda boda operators, who committed to supporting civic awareness efforts, promoting peace, and encouraging residents to register as voters.
Prof. Aduol assured stakeholders of the Commission’s commitment to credible elections, saying IEBC remains focused on delivering processes that are free, fair and transparent.
The voter registration drive is part of the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) programme aimed at updating the national voter register and increasing participation, particularly among first-time voters and mobile populations.
IEBC officials have been touring counties across the country to boost turnout and strengthen partnerships with local leaders and community groups.
