Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of political opponents, accusing them of poor governance and urging Kenyans to reconsider their leadership choices.
Speaking in Oloitoktok town, Kajiado County, Gachagua said his leadership philosophy is grounded in “truthfulness, accountability, traceability, and integrity,” in contrast to what he termed as a system driven by “dishonesty, looting, intimidation, and a carefree attitude.”
“The people of Kenya, and especially the great residents of Oloitoktok town, have conveyed to us that this approach has taken a toll on them,” he said. “They feel they have no option but to terminate their current contract and begin a new chapter.”
His remarks come at a time of heightened political activity, with leaders traversing the country amid early signs of realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Although he did not directly name individuals, his criticism reflects growing opposition pressure on President William Ruto’s administration over the high cost of living and governance concerns.
Political observers say Gachagua’s messaging seeks to frame leadership as a social contract between citizens and those in power, a theme that has increasingly featured in his public engagements.
During the visit, the former deputy president also thanked residents for their reception, saying their support signals a growing demand for change.
“Asanteni sana, Oloitoktok town, for your warm reception,” he said.
The tour is part of a broader outreach campaign as Gachagua seeks to expand his political base beyond his traditional strongholds while positioning himself within the evolving opposition landscape.
