The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that only six days remain before voters head to the polls in three by-elections scheduled for May 14.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the commission said the by-elections will be held for the Member of National Assembly seat for Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County and Member of County Assembly positions for Porro Ward in Samburu County and Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The electoral agency urged voters in the affected areas to prepare to participate in the exercise, assuring them that polling stations will open at 6am and close at 5pm.
IEBC said any time lost during the opening of polling stations would be compensated at closing time to ensure all eligible voters have an opportunity to cast their ballots.
The commission further clarified that voters who will still be in the queue by 5pm will be allowed to vote.
The Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of area MP Johana Ng’eno, triggering a contest that has attracted intense political interest in Narok County.
In Samburu County, the Porro Ward MCA seat became vacant after the death of the area representative, while the Endo Ward seat in Elgeyo Marakwet fell vacant after the court nullified the election of the MCA.
The mini polls are expected to serve as a political test for major parties and local leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election, with campaigns in the affected areas already gaining momentum.
The by-elections are also taking place at a time when the IEBC is under pressure to rebuild public confidence following leadership changes and prolonged disputes over electoral reforms after the 2022 General Election.
