Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned the brutal killing of Rev. Julius Ngari Ndumia, calling for swift investigations and justice for the slain preacher.
Speaking during the burial of Rev. Ndumia in Tetu Constituency, Nyeri County, Gachagua described the murder of the PCEA Tabuga Parish minister from Nakuru East Presbytery as shocking and painful.
“Rev. Ndumia was brutally murdered. He was killed in cold blood. Why did they kill Rev. Ndumia? Why?” Gachagua posed.
Quoting John 15:20, Gachagua said Christians and servants of God continue to face persecution, just as Christ warned in the scriptures.
The former Deputy President joined the family, clergy and members of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) in mourning the cleric, saying the country must protect places of worship and religious leaders.
“To the family of Rev. Ndumia, I cry with you. To the clergy, the PCEA fraternity and the entire Christian faithful in Kenya, may you be comforted,” he said.
Gachagua said every Kenyan deserves security, adding that human life is sacred and must be protected at all costs.
He urged authorities to ensure those behind the killing are arrested and prosecuted, saying there should be no alternative to protecting human life.
Rev. Ndumia’s death has sparked concern among church leaders and residents over rising insecurity and attacks targeting religious leaders in different parts of the country. Clergy have in recent years increasingly spoken out against violence, corruption and social injustices, sometimes placing them at the centre of public and political tensions.
The late cleric served at PCEA Tabuga Parish under the Nakuru East Presbytery and was remembered during the burial service as a dedicated minister who worked closely with the community and faithful.
