Karen Hospital doctor and cardiologist Dr Daniel Gikonyo has dismissed claims that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s medical report contained inconsistencies, insisting that the document is accurate and properly prepared.
Appearing before Justices Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi, and Antony Murima on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Dr Gikonyo clarified concerns raised by the Senate regarding timelines contained in paragraph four of his affidavit and the discharge summary submitted in court.
According to the doctor, the 3 pm time indicated in the affidavit referred to the moment Gachagua arrived and was formally admitted to Karen Hospital while seeking medical treatment. He maintained that there were no errors in the report as alleged.
Dr Gikonyo also informed the court that he has been Gachagua’s personal physician for nearly two decades. “I am acquainted with my patient, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, whom I have taken care of from my record, your honour… I have been a doctor to the said Hon. Rigathi Gachagua since 5:10 pm on July 10, 2006,” he stated before the Milimani Law Courts.
The cardiologist further explained that he has treated Gachagua on multiple occasions over the years, including during the former Deputy President’s admission to Karen Hospital on October 17, 2024, at the height of his impeachment hearing in the Senate.
The medical report has become a key subject in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Gachagua’s impeachment case, with lawyers and senators scrutinizing details related to his hospitalization during the hearings. Dr Gikonyo’s testimony is expected to play a crucial role in clarifying medical records presented before the court.
