President William Ruto on Tuesday night joined millions of Arsenal supporters across the world in celebrating the club’s English Premier League title win, describing it as the reward for years of resilience, patience and rebuilding.
In a message shared online shortly after the victory, Ruto said Arsenal’s rise from seasons of disappointment to league champions had inspired many football fans.
“It has been quite an experience to follow Arsenal Football Club’s epic adventure, from times of struggle and crushing setback, to successive seasons of recovery and resurgence,” the President said.
Ruto praised the club for staying focused despite years of criticism and near misses, saying the triumph reflected the value of discipline, teamwork and persistence.
“We have witnessed the power of hope, resilience, focus and relentless hard work in action,” he said.
The President congratulated Arsenal F.C., popularly known as the Gunners, saying the team had finally earned its reward after years of rebuilding in one of the world’s toughest football leagues.
Arsenal’s title win marks a major moment for the North London club, which has spent years trying to return to the summit of English football after long periods dominated by rivals such as Manchester City F.C. and Liverpool F.C..
Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal gradually rebuilt a youthful squad that has consistently challenged for the title in recent seasons after years outside serious contention.
The club enjoys massive support in Kenya, where the English Premier League remains the most followed football competition. Across Nairobi and other towns, Arsenal fans poured into entertainment spots and social spaces to celebrate the victory, with many describing it as a long-awaited moment after years of frustration and heartbreak.
Ruto, who has occasionally shared his love for football publicly, used the occasion to draw lessons from the team’s success, saying achievement comes through commitment and collective effort.
“Tonight, the great reward is won. The team is victorious,” he said.
