High-Level Talks Defuse Transport Stand-Off
Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators have suspended their planned strike after a direct engagement with President William Ruto and senior government officials.
The discussions focused on escalating fuel costs and their impact on the sustainability of public transport operations across Kenya.
Fuel Prices at the Centre of the Dispute
Transport stakeholders had threatened to halt services nationwide, citing rising diesel prices that they said were pushing operating costs beyond manageable levels.
Following negotiations, the government committed to a reduction in diesel prices in the upcoming pricing cycle, which operators described as a positive step toward easing the burden.
Strike Suspended, Commuters Relieved
Matatu associations confirmed that the planned industrial action has been suspended and normal transport services will resume immediately.
The move is expected to restore stability in urban and inter-county transport networks that had begun experiencing uncertainty and disruptions.
Government Promises Continued Engagement
Officials said the talks are part of broader efforts to manage the cost of living while safeguarding essential services such as public transport.
They also pledged ongoing dialogue with transport operators to address long-term challenges in fuel pricing and sector sustainability.
