The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced temporary job vacancies ahead of the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election scheduled for July 16, 2026, as preparations for the poll gather pace.
In a notice published on its recruitment portal, the Commission said it is hiring Presiding and Deputy Presiding Officers, Polling and Counting Clerks, Support Electoral Trainers (SETs), and Voter Educators to support the conduct of the mini-poll.
Applicants have been directed to submit their applications online through IEBC Jobs Portal before the deadline of Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The by-election will be held to fill a parliamentary vacancy in Ol Kalou Constituency, though the Commission has not yet publicly detailed the specific circumstances that led to the seat falling vacant in its recruitment notice accompanying the advert.
IEBC said the recruited staff will be deployed to support key electoral functions including voter education, polling station management, vote counting, and results transmission in line with electoral procedures.
“Your Vote, Your Future,” the Commission said in its notice, urging qualified Kenyans to apply for the temporary positions.
While IEBC has already set the election date for July 16, 2026, political parties are yet to officially announce their candidates for the contest. However, attention is expected to shift to party nominations in the coming weeks, with major political formations likely to field contenders as they seek to capture the seat.
By-elections in Kenya are typically triggered when a parliamentary or ward seat becomes vacant due to resignation, death, or other legal or political developments, prompting the electoral body to organise a fresh vote to fill the position for the remainder of the term.
