The Untold Story Of The Anglo-Leasing Affair

In this episode, we trace the full story of Anglo-Leasing — Kenya’s most elaborate corruption scandal — from the phantom companies and inflated contracts of the Moi era, to the efforts to silence the investigator who exposed them, and the legal machinery that spent two decades dismantling accountability. *What’s Inside* *The Machine* How a financing tool called suppliers’ credit — designed for legitimate security procurement — became the architecture for systematic theft, hiding contracts from Parliament and the public. *The Dossier* How Kenya’s top anti-corruption official built a record implicating individuals closest to the presidency — and what followed. *The Pressure Campaign* Threats, bribes, and personal leverage — culminating in the realization that the system itself could not be challenged from within. *The Legal Counter-Offensive* How suspects used the courts to halt investigations, invalidate international evidence, and transform fraudulent contracts into official state debts. *The Irony* One leader chaired the inquiry that rejected payment, later oversaw the settlement as Finance Minister, and ultimately authorized payments as President. *The Whistleblower’s Cost* Across eighteen contracts and two decades of proceedings, only one conviction was secured — while the whistleblower was ordered to pay damages to one of the individuals he exposed. The case is still ongoing.
