Commissioner Marykaren Sorobit, the Chairperson of the Liaison Committee for Political Parties and the Law Commission (LCPPLC), has emphasized the critical role of pre-election dispute resolution in strengthening democracy.
Speaking during an address on electoral preparedness, Sorobit said mechanisms that resolve disputes before voting day are essential in safeguarding transparency and fairness in elections.
She described the system as the “backbone of any electoral process,” noting that it helps to prevent chaos, build trust, and ensure results are credible.
“The pre-election dispute resolution mechanism is the core of any electoral system, intended to uphold free, fair, and verifiable elections,” she said.
According to the LCPPLC, strong and reliable dispute resolution processes allow political parties and candidates to seek justice before elections are conducted, reducing tensions and enhancing confidence in democratic institutions.
The commission continues to advocate for more robust structures as part of electoral reforms ahead of future polls.
