ODM Changes Strategy Amid Internal Realignment
The Orange Democratic Movement has formally shelved the “Linda Ground” political campaign, signalling a major shift in strategy as the party seeks to heal internal divisions and strengthen its base ahead of the next election cycle.
The announcement was made during a consultative meeting bringing together ODM aspirants from Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori counties.
Party leaders described the move as part of a broader effort to streamline messaging and restore cohesion following internal tensions that intensified after the death of Raila Odinga.
Wanga Pushes for One ODM Identity
ODM national chairperson Gladys Wanga said the party would now campaign strictly under the ODM identity, colours, and symbols to avoid confusion linked to factional branding and parallel political messaging.
According to Wanga, the “Linda Ground” initiative was initially created to strengthen ODM strongholds, but internal disagreements later complicated its purpose.
Factional Politics Behind the Decision
The move is being interpreted as a political signal from the faction aligned to Oburu Odinga, distancing itself from the “Linda Mwananchi” group associated with Edwin Sifuna and allied leaders.
The two camps have recently clashed over ODM’s direction, leadership structure, and future political alliances ahead of 2027.
From Grassroots Mobilisation to Rebranding
The “Linda Ground” rallies had previously served as a grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at protecting ODM influence in Nyanza and parts of Western Kenya amid shifting political alliances.
However, analysts say growing factionalism and weakening cohesion forced the party to reconsider the campaign as it prepares for coalition negotiations and succession politics.
Recent political surveys have also pointed to internal divisions affecting ODM’s dominance in some traditional support zones.
