Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has expressed support for his son Leon Major Malala’s political ambitions after the youthful aspiring leader declared his intention to contest a parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
Malala signaled his endorsement through a social media post featuring a campaign-style poster bearing Leon’s image and the slogan, “Leon Major Malala for MP 2027.” Accompanying the poster was the phrase, “Like Father, Like Son,” which many interpreted as a clear endorsement of his son’s political aspirations.
The announcement comes days after the former Kakamega Senator humorously suggested that his son could surpass his own political achievements at a younger age. Malala appeared amused by Leon’s growing interest in public leadership, hinting that the young aspirant could establish himself on the political stage much earlier than he did.
Despite being the son of a prominent political figure, Leon has insisted that his decision to seek elective office is motivated by concerns about the country's leadership rather than family influence.
“I am not a politician; I do not aspire to be one. I have never dreamt of being a politician, but I am going to vie for an MP seat. It’s not because of my dad but because of the kind of leadership this country has offered,” Leon said.
The youthful aspirant criticized what he described as growing challenges facing young people, including reports of abductions and extrajudicial killings. He questioned why such incidents continue to occur and called for leaders to be held accountable.
Leon also urged young people to become more active in shaping Kenya’s future, arguing that the youth possess both the numbers and the potential to transform the country through democratic participation.
Drawing a comparison with technology, he likened Kenya to a software system that requires regular updates to remain effective and relevant. According to him, the country needs fresh leadership, innovative thinking, and a new generation of leaders capable of addressing emerging challenges.
Leon Major Malala has gained attention on social media and political platforms in recent months through his outspoken views on governance, youth empowerment, and national affairs. His growing public profile has fueled speculation that he could become one of the youthful faces seeking elective office in 2027.
While he has not yet disclosed the constituency he intends to contest, his declaration marks the beginning of what could be a closely watched political journey as preparations for the next general election gather momentum.
