Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has hailed the election of Kisa East MCA Aduda Okwiri as evidence of the party's growing influence across the country.
Speaking during engagements in Kisa East Ward, Kakamega County, Mr Gachagua said the victory demonstrated that Kenyans were increasingly embracing the party's message and vision for the country's future.
The former Deputy President said DCP was founded on the principle of listening to wananchi and shaping its policies around the aspirations and concerns of ordinary Kenyans.
"The DCP Party is grounded in the philosophy of listening to the plight of the Kenyan people and acting according to their wishes," Mr Gachagua said.
According to the opposition leader, the party's approach has resonated with citizens across the country, leading to increased support and membership in recent months.
Mr Gachagua expressed gratitude to residents of Kisa East for electing Mr Okwiri as their Member of County Assembly in the November 27, 2025 by-election, describing the outcome as a major political statement.
He said the MCA's victory over candidates backed by established political parties reflected growing confidence in DCP's leadership and agenda.
"As the Party Leader of DCP, I am honoured and filled with gratitude that the people of Kisa East in Kakamega County entrusted us with their representation by electing Aduda Okwiri as their Member of County Assembly," he said.
The former Deputy President, who is part of the opposition coalition operating under the banner of the United Alternative Government, said the alliance had intensified grassroots engagements aimed at presenting an alternative development agenda to Kenyans.
He noted that leaders within the coalition had held discussions with residents of Kisa East, where they outlined their plans for economic growth, job creation and improved public service delivery.
Mr Gachagua maintained that the opposition remains committed to offering solutions to the country's challenges and working towards what he described as a more inclusive and accountable government.
He said the coalition would continue engaging citizens across different regions as it seeks to build momentum ahead of future political contests.
The Kisa East victory has been viewed by DCP leaders as a significant boost for the party's expansion efforts in Western Kenya, a region traditionally dominated by larger and more established political formations.
