Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has spoken out over the increasing cases of insecurity being reported in Bungoma town and nearby areas.
In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the lawmaker described the situation as disturbing, saying residents are now being forced to live with constant fear due to repeated attacks linked to criminal gangs.
According to Wanyonyi, reports of violent robberies and assaults have become more frequent, with some incidents ending tragically. He noted that the growing trend of insecurity is unacceptable and requires immediate attention from the country’s security leadership.
Concerns Over Rising Violence
The MP particularly referenced the recent killing of a public health officer in the county, an incident that has sparked concern among residents and leaders alike.
Wanyonyi said such attacks should never become normal in society, adding that citizens deserve to feel safe in their homes and businesses without fear of violence or intimidation.
He further stressed that the continued rise in crime could negatively affect economic activities and disrupt the daily lives of Bungoma residents if swift action is not taken.
The gubernatorial aspirant urged the Inspector General of Police and other senior security officials to move quickly and restore order in the region.
He insisted that criminal gangs behind the attacks must be identified and dealt with firmly to prevent further loss of lives.
The legislator also called on leaders and residents to work together in supporting efforts aimed at improving security and protecting communities across Bungoma County.
