Wandayi Accuses Orengo of Misleading Nyanza, Declares Support for Ruto's Re-election

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has launched a fresh attack on Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing him of misleading the people of Nyanza over the region's political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Ugunja, Wandayi questioned Orengo's opposition to leaders from the region working with the Kenya Kwanza administration, arguing that the pursuit of government inclusion had long been a key political objective for the Luo community.

The Cabinet Secretary maintained that leaders from Nyanza are now collaborating with the national government to accelerate development projects and improve service delivery across the region.

According to Wandayi, the decision by some leaders to work with President William Ruto's administration reflects the aspirations of residents who are seeking development rather than perpetual political confrontation.

He further revealed that leaders aligned with the government have already resolved to support President Ruto's re-election in the 2027 General Election, expressing confidence that the region will rally behind the Head of State.

Wandayi urged Governor Orengo to respect the ability of the Luo community to make independent political decisions, insisting that residents are capable of determining the direction they want to take without external influence.

The Energy CS also challenged the Siaya governor to publicly declare the presidential candidate he intends to support if he is opposed to backing President Ruto.

He went a step further, daring Orengo to declare his own presidential bid if he believes he can offer an alternative leadership vision for the country.

Wandayi said he is prepared for a political contest and vowed to spearhead campaigns across the Nyanza region to mobilize support for President Ruto ahead of the 2027 polls.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments within the Luo Nyanza region, where leaders remain divided over cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration and the country's political direction ahead of the next General Election.
