Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has dismissed claims that Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has exited the Linda Mwananchi movement, maintaining that the platform remains open to differing opinions and internal debate.
Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Sifuna defended Amisi's recent criticism of the movement's political direction, saying disagreement among members should not be interpreted as a sign of disunity.
“Caleb Amisi hajashuka vuguvugu la Linda Mwananchi sisi ni wana democrasia; lazima watu waruhusiwe kutoa maoni yao na mtazamo yao na vile najua sijaona Amisi akisema tutam,” Sifuna said.
The outspoken senator argued that Linda Mwananchi was founded on democratic ideals and therefore cannot suppress dissenting voices within its ranks.
According to Sifuna, it would be contradictory for the movement to criticize the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for stifling internal democracy while adopting similar practices against members who express differing views.
Although Amisi has recently voiced concerns over the movement's direction and hinted at pursuing a separate political path, Sifuna maintained that the Saboti legislator has neither aligned himself with the government nor joined the TUTAM political camp.
His remarks come amid growing speculation about divisions within Linda Mwananchi following Amisi's public criticism of the movement's leadership.
In recent weeks, Amisi accused Sifuna of failing to heed advice and being "full of himself." The Saboti MP also announced plans to establish a new political movement, arguing that it would champion the original ideals upon which Linda Mwananchi was founded, claiming the movement had since drifted from its intended mission.
Despite the public exchanges, Sifuna insisted that Amisi remains part of Linda Mwananchi and that differences of opinion should be viewed as a strength rather than a weakness within the movement.
