Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of deploying a special police unit and state-sponsored militia to disrupt Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) campaign activities in Ol Kalou.
In a statement issued on Friday, Gachagua alleged that members of what he referred to as the "Nairobi Sierra Killer Squad" had been dispatched to the area, where they allegedly carried out arrests and assaulted DCP supporters.
"Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen has dispatched Nairobi Sierra killer squad that attacked Witima ACK Church to cause mayhem in Ol Kalou," Gachagua claimed.
According to the former deputy president, the officers and alleged militia arrived in the constituency hours before the statement and immediately began targeting DCP campaigners.
"They arrived three hours ago and started abductions and indiscriminate beatings on DCP campaigners," he alleged.
Gachagua further claimed that members of his campaign team had sought refuge at the Royal Garden Hotel, where he alleged they had been surrounded by police officers and armed individuals.
"Our teams are held up at Royal Garden Hotel under brutal police and State-sponsored militia. Goons are currently breaking into the hotel," he said.
The DCP leader also praised Ol Kalou residents, claiming they had resisted the alleged operation.
"Thank you Ol Kalou people for resisting this killer squad. Ol Kalou is not Mbeere!" Gachagua stated.
The allegations come amid heightened political activity ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, with rival political camps intensifying campaigns across the constituency.
As of the time of publication, the Ministry of Interior and the National Police Service had not publicly responded to Gachagua's claims. The allegations could not be independently verified.
