East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has vowed to remain in Ol Kalou despite an alleged attack on his convoy, saying he will continue supporting the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate in the constituency's parliamentary by-election.
Speaking at Ol Jorok Police Station on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after reporting the incident, Kega said neither he nor other DCP leaders would be intimidated by the events of the previous day.
He stated that he and fellow party leaders would camp in Ol Kalou to ensure that the votes cast for DCP candidate Sammy Waweru Kamau are protected during the election.
"I will not be intimidated. I have been in Ol Kalou for the past 60 days, and I am not going to leave Ol Kalou. I will make sure our candidate's votes are safeguarded. We can't eat the cow and fail to eat the tail. We will not leave Ol Kalou," Kega said.
According to Kega, he has spent the last two months campaigning in the constituency and insisted that the party must see the campaign through to its conclusion despite the security concerns.
He alleged that the attack was intended to intimidate opposition leaders and discourage them from participating in the by-election.
The remarks come a day after Kega claimed he had narrowly escaped an armed attack following campaign activities in Ol Kalou.
Speaking from what he described as a hideout in Oljororok on Monday, July 13, 2026, Kega alleged that unknown armed men, whom he identified as police officers, pursued his convoy after the campaign event. The allegations have not been independently verified, and the National Police Service had not publicly responded to the specific claims at the time of his remarks.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election has been marked by heightened political tensions, with rival camps exchanging accusations over violence and intimidation in the run-up to polling day.
