Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader and former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has accused security agencies of attempting to intimidate voters during the ongoing Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, claiming the heavy deployment of police officers was meant to discourage residents from participating in the vote.

Speaking during a press conference in Ol Kalou on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Malala alleged that the large police presence was intended to create fear among voters and portray the constituency as volatile.

According to the former senator, the strategy was aimed at suppressing voter turnout by making residents believe the security situation was unstable.

"The intention was to intimidate our supporters and create the impression that the situation in Ol Kalou was tense. But I thank the people of Ol Kalou for refusing to be frightened and turning out to vote in large numbers," Malala said.

He commended residents for ignoring what he described as intimidation tactics and exercising their democratic right to vote despite the heightened security presence.

Malala maintained that the deployment of additional security personnel would not influence the outcome of the by-election.

"Even if the entire police service was deployed here today, we believe the will of the people of Ol Kalou cannot be suppressed," he added.

His remarks come as voting continues across Ol Kalou Constituency under heightened security, with thousands of police officers deployed to safeguard the parliamentary by-election.
