Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has maintained that Mt Kenya voters cannot be influenced by money, insisting that they ultimately vote in the best interests of their region.
In a statement shared after the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, Waiguru argued that although politicians may temporarily attract support, they cannot buy the loyalty of Mt Kenya voters.
“I said it before, I will say it again, you can rent a Kikuyu but you can never buy a Kikuyu,” Waiguru said.
The governor added that voters from the region remain guided by what they believe is best for their community when casting their ballots.
“Bottom line, they will still vote for their own people. They know what is good for the region and they will stand with their region,” she stated.
Her remarks come amid heightened political debate following the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, which has sparked renewed discussions about voting patterns and political alignments in the Mt Kenya region.
