Nyeri senatorial aspirant Kabando wa Kabando has expressed confidence that Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua can “rescue” Kenya in the 2027 General Election.
Kabando made the remarks in a post shared on his X account on Monday, July 20, 2026, following the DCP’s landslide victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
He said Gachagua had been underestimated politically, but his strategic leadership had delivered a significant victory for the party.
“He was underrated. Rigathi’s superb strategic skills, via elaborate DCP delegated stewards, delivered Ol Kalou to spur a nation’s hope,” Kabando wrote.
The DCP candidate, Sammy Kamau Ngotho, won the Ol Kalou by-election with 35,440 votes, defeating United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who garnered 5,450 votes.
The 29,990-vote margin handed the DCP its first parliamentary seat and strengthened Gachagua’s political standing in the Mt Kenya region. The election recorded a voter turnout of 57 per cent.
Kabando described the outcome as evidence that the WANTAM campaign, which seeks to make President William Ruto a one-term leader, was gaining momentum.
“The truth is that RiggyG is shepherding the WANTAM movement to rescue our motherland, Kenya from gluttonous Ruto jaws. Wamunyoro spirit triumphs,” he stated.
Wamunyoro is Gachagua’s political base in Nyeri County. Kabando is seeking the Nyeri Senate seat on a DCP ticket in the 2027 General Election.
