Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow faced chants calling for her to serve only one term during a visit to Bute in Wajir North, in an incident that appeared to reflect rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The chants erupted as Jehow addressed residents during what was reported to be her first visit to the area since winning the Wajir Woman Representative seat in the 2022 General Election.
Sections of the crowd repeatedly chanted “one term,” signalling dissatisfaction among some residents with her leadership.
The incident comes amid renewed scrutiny of Jehow following controversial remarks she made regarding the 2027 presidential election and the political stance of leaders from the North Eastern region.
Speaking at a public meeting in Wajir on July 12, 2025, Jehow declared that North Eastern leaders were committed to supporting President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
“Sisi wabunge wa North Eastern maneno ya President, tunasema ‘tutam’, hata kama hatutakua na votes tutamwibia… hio si siri,” she said.
The remarks sparked widespread criticism at the time, with many Kenyans interpreting them as inappropriate comments about the electoral process.
Jehow has not publicly commented on the chants directed at her during the Bute visit.
