Former Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has warned against the use of young people to advance political interests through violence and intimidation.
In a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Owalo said violence should never be used as a tool to intimidate political opponents or influence democratic processes.
“Violence should not be used as a tool of political intimidation,” Owalo said.
He called for a peaceful political environment in which leaders are judged based on their policies, integrity and track record, rather than their ability to create fear or mobilise violence.
Owalo also raised concern over the lack of opportunities for many young people, saying the situation makes them vulnerable to manipulation by political actors.
“It is unacceptable for young people to be drawn into political violence because of limited opportunities,” he stated.
The former CS urged leaders and stakeholders to focus on empowering the youth through education, employment and economic opportunities so that they can participate meaningfully in national development.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity and growing concerns over the use of violence and intimidation in Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
