Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has moved closer to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement, signalling a possible political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Although Wanyonyi has not made an official declaration, his campaign vehicles were seen traversing different parts of Bungoma County on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, mobilising residents ahead of Sifuna’s planned homecoming event.
The campaign materials displayed on the vehicles featured messages appearing to endorse Sifuna’s presidential bid, further strengthening speculation that the Bungoma gubernatorial hopeful has aligned himself with the movement.
The development came on the same day Sifuna confirmed that he had been holding discussions with Wanyonyi and other political leaders from Bungoma.
Speaking during a local media interview, Sifuna expressed confidence in the growing influence of Linda Mwananchi, stating that the movement would produce the next Bungoma governor.
“I have had meetings with Tim Wanyonyi. I have met Zachariah Barasa and all those people, including senate aspirants from Bungoma – very many aspirants – but one thing that I know is that whoever will be elected as Bungoma governor in 2027 will be from Linda Mwananchi,” Sifuna said.
The Nairobi senator also revealed that he was engaging other Bungoma political figures, including former Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Zachariah Barasa, who recently left the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K).
Sifuna said the increasing number of influential leaders associating with the movement demonstrated its growing strength and readiness to compete in the 2027 elections.
The political realignment comes days after Wangamati, who had been preparing to seek another term as Bungoma governor, appeared to shift focus after associating himself with Linda Mwananchi and hinting at a possible Senate bid.
Wanyonyi’s move also comes months after he publicly distanced himself from his brother, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya party, amid growing political positioning ahead of the next election cycle.
