President William Ruto on Tuesday hosted United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah at State House, Nairobi, days after his defeat in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
Muchina lost the July 16, 2026 contest to Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Waweru, who secured a commanding victory after garnering 35,440 votes.
The UDA candidate came second with 5,450 votes, while Jubilee Party’s Wilson Mwaniki Kigwa received 198 votes. Stephen Wanyoike Waithaka of the National Liberal Party finished fourth with 103 votes.
The Ol Kalou by-election attracted national attention and was widely viewed as a political test ahead of the 2027 General Election, particularly in the Mt Kenya region where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP has been seeking to strengthen its influence.
Following the results, DCP leaders and supporters celebrated the victory as a major political milestone, describing it as a sign of changing political dynamics in the region.
The meeting between President Ruto and Muchina took place at State House, Nairobi, although details of their discussions were not immediately made public.
The engagement comes as UDA reviews its performance after the defeat, with several political leaders calling for reflection and a reassessment of strategies ahead of the 2027 polls.
