Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has predicted that President William Ruto will receive limited support from the Mt Kenya region in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker advised President Ruto to reconsider relying on Mt Kenya as a key voting bloc following the outcome of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
“Mt Kenya will not vote for William Ruto in 2027; that I am sure he should remove Mt Kenya from his calculations. The highest he can get is 15 per cent,” Kaluma said.
Kaluma said he had repeatedly expressed similar views within the broad-based government, arguing that the President should focus on strengthening support in other regions rather than depending heavily on Mt Kenya.
The lawmaker linked his prediction to the Ol Kalou by-election, where Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Waweru secured a decisive victory against United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah.
Kaluma also questioned the resources invested by the government during the Ol Kalou campaign, arguing that the outcome showed that political support cannot be guaranteed through government programmes or mobilisation efforts.
He noted that Mt Kenya overwhelmingly supported President Ruto during the 2022 General Election but suggested that political dynamics in the region had changed ahead of the next election cycle.
The remarks come amid intensified political realignments across the country as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
