Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has appealed for unity among communities in the Mt Kenya region, dismissing attempts to create divisions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the opening of the Kigari Teachers College Administration Block in Embu on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Kindiki said the people of Mt Kenya have a shared history and should not allow political rivalry to weaken their collective identity.
“Mimi sitaki jamii yetu itengane. We are one people. I don’t want to see our community talking in different languages; we are one people,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President emphasised that communities across the region have historically worked together in both social and political matters.
“Sisi ni jamii moja. Zamani hii area yote from Kirinyaga all the way to Meru tulikuwa Diocese of Mt Kenya East, and we were led by Bishop David Gitari. Hata mambo ya siasa sisi watu wa area hii ya Mt. Kenya, we have always done a lot of things together, and we have a long history. There is nothing that can divide us,” he stated.
Kindiki’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in the Mt Kenya region, where leaders have intensified campaigns and realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Deputy President has been seeking to strengthen his political influence in the region following recent by-election contests and growing competition among political factions.
