Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru after he was sworn in as the new Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency in Nyandarua County.
In a statement shared on his social media account on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Gachagua urged the newly elected legislator to shift his focus from campaigning to serving the people who entrusted him with the seat.
“Campaigns and celebrations are now over and it is time to work. Always remember to listen to your people; the people who elected you,” Gachagua said.
The former deputy president encouraged Waweru to settle into office quickly and begin addressing the needs of Ol Kalou residents, saying the by-election victory came with a responsibility to represent the electorate faithfully.
Gachagua also claimed that the government spent billions of shillings on development projects and cash handouts in an attempt to influence the outcome of the by-election, alleging that voters rejected what he described as “bribes and intimidation.” The claims have not been independently verified.
“I have no doubt in my mind that you will not disappoint your constituents, having worked with me when you served the country with commitment and distinction,” he added.
Gachagua further described the victory as a significant milestone for the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), noting that Waweru had become the party's first elected Member of the National Assembly.
“This victory is the first step in our journey towards creating a huge political party that will form the 6th Administration,” he said.
Waweru was sworn in after winning the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, a contest that has attracted significant political attention ahead of the 2027 General Election.
