Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has welcomed Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha into the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), describing his defection as evidence of the party’s growing influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement shared on his X account on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Gachagua said he was pleased to receive Badilisha and the Nyandarua County Assembly leadership into the party.
He said the governor and county leaders had committed to defending their seats on the DCP ticket and would participate in the party’s nomination process ahead of the 2027 polls.
“I am delighted to receive Governor Kiarie Badilisha of Nyandarua County and the entire County Assembly into the DCP Party. They have assured me that they will defend their seats on DCP Party tickets, and they shall form part of the aspirants in the party primaries next year,” Gachagua said.
The former deputy president assured the new members that the party’s nomination process would be conducted fairly, promising transparent primaries for all aspirants.
“I have assured them that the party primaries will be free and fair,” he added.
Gachagua further said the Nyandarua delegation had delivered a message of goodwill from residents of the county, whom he claimed were responding to what he termed the call for Kenya’s liberation.
Badilisha’s move adds to a growing list of political leaders aligning themselves with DCP as the party seeks to establish itself as a major political force ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The development comes shortly after DCP celebrated its first parliamentary victory in the Ol Kalou by-election, where Sammy Kamau Ngotho won the seat and was later sworn in as the party’s first elected Member of Parliament.
