Senior Counsel Paul Muite has alleged that preparations to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 General Election are underway, warning that violence could become a fallback option if attempts to influence the vote fail.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Muite claimed that retaining political power appeared to be taking precedence over respecting the will of the electorate.
“Rigging preparations in plain sight. If rigging fails, unleashing violence is the last nuclear option. Power must be retained. The will of the People is irrelevant,” Muite said.
The veteran lawyer compared the situation to the rule of former Congolese leader Mobutu Sese Seko, arguing that history has shown that attempts to suppress the will of citizens ultimately fail.
“Mobutu and many others have travelled this route. The People always succeed in the end,” he stated.
Muite expressed confidence that Kenyans would ultimately prevail despite the challenges facing the country's democratic process.
“Kenyans will succeed no matter what!” he added.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity and growing debate over electoral preparedness, governance and the conduct of political leaders as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election.
