Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has weighed in on the growing political row surrounding nominated Senator Crystal Asige's removal from a key Senate committee, telling her to resign from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) if she wishes to associate with the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Cherargei's remarks came after Asige suggested that her removal from the Senate Committee on Roads, Transport and Housing may have been a form of punishment by the party leadership amid ongoing committee reshuffles targeting legislators perceived to be sympathetic to the emerging opposition outfit.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, July 31, 2026, the outspoken United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senator argued that Asige holds her Senate seat by virtue of ODM's nomination and, therefore, owes loyalty to the party and its political direction.
“My sister senator colleague, you are in the Senate courtesy of ODM Party, who nominated you through affirmative action to represent the ODM Party interests and special interest groups,” Cherargei wrote.
He maintained that if Asige wished to align herself with another political formation, she should first relinquish the seat she occupies through ODM's nomination.
“Therefore, your loyalty should be absolute to ODM Party and the broad-based government. If you feel you want to join another political formation like Linda Mwananchi, the decent democratic discipline is to resign from ODM, which automatically means you lose your Senate nomination,” he added.
Cherargei further noted that Asige had not been removed from the party but had only been reassigned to another Senate committee in line with parliamentary procedures.
“Thank God it’s just being moved to another committee, which is procedural, not deregistered from ODM because you have contravened the Political Parties Act. Party leader Senator Oburu Odinga is a good man. Pawa!!” he stated.
