Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed that the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election exposed widespread attempts at voter bribery and demonstrated growing public resistance to electoral malpractice.
Speaking during a public gathering in Mbeere South, Embu County, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, Kalonzo praised residents of Ol Kalou Constituency for what he described as their rejection of vote buying, saying the outcome provided a “formula” for defeating politicians who rely on money and material incentives to win elections.
“Hapo tumepata formula ya kumpeleka Kasongo nyumbani,” Kalonzo said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
The former Vice President alleged that voters in Ol Kalou were offered various incentives during the campaign period, including household items and cash, as part of efforts to influence their choices at the ballot.
“Watu wa Ol Kalou waliletewa mattress. Watu wa Ol Kalou waliletewa gas. Watu wa Ol Kalou waliletewa kila mtu milioni moja,” he claimed.
Kalonzo argued that the by-election reflected a shift in Kenya’s political landscape, with voters becoming more aware and less willing to exchange their votes for short-term benefits.
“Watu wa Ol Kalou wameonyesha hakutakuwa na wizi wa kura tena,” he said.
The Wiper leader said the Ol Kalou contest should serve as a warning to politicians who depend on financial inducements rather than addressing the concerns of citizens.
The remarks come as political parties intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders using recent by-elections as indicators of changing voter attitudes across the country.
