Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has publicly endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid, calling on Bungoma residents to continue supporting what he described as the beginning of a long political journey.
Speaking during a public gathering in Bungoma on Sunday, August 2, 2026, Wanyonyi reflected on his long political association with Sifuna within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying he played a role in welcoming the senator into Nairobi politics.
“Sifuna alikuwa Secretary General wa chama cha ODM, ambaye mimi na yeye tulikuwa wanachama wa ODM. Sifuna akikuja Nairobi, mimi ndio nilimkaribisha,” Wanyonyi said.
The MP recalled Sifuna’s early political challenges, noting that he did not succeed in his first attempt to secure an elective position but later won the Nairobi Senate seat with support from ODM allies.
“Mara ya kwanza hakufaulu lakini mara ya pili tukamsaidia akaingia kama seneta wetu,” he said.
Western Kenya support for Sifuna
Wanyonyi’s remarks come days after a section of leaders and residents in Bungoma publicly expressed support for Sifuna’s national political ambitions.
The Westlands MP urged the community to maintain its support for the Nairobi senator, saying his political journey had only begun.
“Juzi mkamuonyesha imani kwake, hiyo imani muendelee nayo hivyo. Kwa sababu safari ya 1,000 km inaanza na hatua moja,” he said.
Sifuna, who leads the Linda Mwananchi movement, has continued to gain attention as opposition leaders intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 General Election.
