Ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday condoled with the family of Pelagiah Muthoni, a Democratic Congress Party (DCP) aspirant in Murang’a County, following the death of her husband, Herbert Kariithi Macharia, in a road accident.
Gachagua, quoting Romans 12:15 — “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep” — said he joined relatives, friends and the local community in mourning the man popularly known as MuIsraeli.
“Herbert was a loving and caring husband who supported his family with zeal and dedication until his passing,” Gachagua said during the visit. “His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.”
The Deputy President expressed his condolences to Muthoni and her family, urging them to find strength during what he described as a painful and unexpected loss.
Road crashes remain a major concern in Murang’a and across the country, with recent government data showing fatalities rising due to speeding, drunk driving and poor road conditions. The Deputy President has in recent months stepped up calls for stricter enforcement and improved road safety measures.
Local leaders accompanying Gachagua said Macharia’s death was a reminder of the need for vigilance on Kenyan roads. “We have lost a committed family man and a pillar in this community,” said one leader who attended the visit.
“May the soul of the late Herbert rest in eternal peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him,” Gachagua added.
