Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has proposed former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa for the position of deputy party leader, in a move that could strengthen the party's efforts to expand its political reach ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kilifi on Friday, August 14, 2026, after visiting Jumwa at her residence, Kalonzo said the former Cabinet Secretary would be considered for a senior leadership position within Wiper.
Kalonzo said Jumwa deserved an opportunity to occupy a senior position in the party, describing the proposed appointment as an opportunity that no other political party had previously offered her.
“Kwa hivyo mimi I propose kwamba na hiyo tutaenda kule tutangaze kirasmi katika makao makuu ya kwamba yeye akuwe naibu kiongozi wa chama cha Wiper Patriotic Front na hicho cheo hakuna chama kingine kimewahi kumpa nafasi kama hiyo,” Kalonzo said.
The proposal comes days after Jumwa left the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), adding to the political realignments taking place ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Jumwa's proposed elevation to Wiper's top leadership would place her at the centre of the party's efforts to broaden its support base, particularly along the Coast and in other regions where the party is seeking to strengthen its presence.
Kalonzo's visit to Jumwa also signals growing political consultations as opposition parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the next election.
If formally approved, Jumwa's appointment would mark a significant new role for the former Cabinet Secretary and could further enhance Wiper's efforts to attract influential politicians from outside its traditional political strongholds.
