Speaking during a political engagement in Nyeri on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Wambugu said the county remained open to all political parties seeking to present their policies and candidates to residents, insisting that no party or individual should regard the region as an exclusive political preserve.
Wambugu said Jubilee would respect DCP and other political formations seeking to establish themselves in the region but would not be intimidated by their presence. Speaking during an interhe former MP said political leaders should respect one another while allowing voters to make independent choices.“We respect him but we do not fear him,” Wambugu said of Gachagua, stressing that political competition should be based on ideas rather than intimidation.
The former legislator noted that Kenya's Constitution guarantees a multiparty democracy and gives citizens the freedom to choose leaders of their preference. He urged political parties to allow competitors to campaign freely and encouraged voters to evaluate aspirants based on their policies, records, ideas and vision for the country.
Wambugu's remarks come as Gachagua and DCP officials intensify their political activities in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election. The former deputy president has been seeking to expand DCP's grassroots presence as political parties position themselves for the next polls.
The former Nyeri Town MP maintained that political parties should compete fairly and avoid creating an atmosphere of fear as they seek to win the support of residents.
