According to a programme shared by a Maragua parliamentary aspirant allied to DCP on Wednesday, August 19, Gachagua will hold three public engagements across the county. He is scheduled to address supporters in Murang’a Town at noon, Kangari Town at 2pm and Kandara Town at 4pm.
The tour comes a day after Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is expected to hold political activities in the same county following the launch of his People’s Party of Kenya (PPK).
Gachagua, Nyoro rivalry intensifies
Gachagua’s Murang’a tour comes amid growing political rivalry between his DCP outfit and Nyoro’s newly launched party, which has positioned itself as part of the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro has maintained that PPK is an opposition party committed to efforts aimed at removing President William Ruto from office in 2027. However, Gachagua’s allies have rejected the party and accused it of being a state-sponsored project intended to weaken DCP’s influence in Mt Kenya.
Some DCP supporters have also mockingly referred to Nyoro’s outfit as a “green wheelbarrow”, drawing comparisons with DCP’s political branding.
DCP pushes ‘one party, one mountain’ message
Gachagua’s allies have responded by pushing the slogan “one party, one mountain and one agenda”, signalling their intention to consolidate Mt Kenya support behind DCP while discouraging the emergence of competing political formations.
Nyandarua Senator John Methu has been among those taking aim at Nyoro’s party, arguing that changing the colour of a wheelbarrow does not change its political identity.
The latest exchange highlights the intensifying battle for political influence in Mt Kenya, with rival camps seeking to establish grassroots structures and rally support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua’s Murang’a rallies are therefore expected to attract significant attention as DCP seeks to reinforce its presence in a region that remains central to the former deputy president’s political strategy.
