Osotsi Warns Against Blocking Linda Mwananchi as Movement Eyes 2027

"Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has said the Linda Mwananchi movement has alternative political options if it is prevented from registering under its preferred name ahead of the 2027 General Election."

Osotsi said the movement was prepared for different outcomes as it continues its legal and administrative battle to secure the Linda Mwananchi name, insisting that the dispute would not derail its political ambitions.

Speaking during an interview with a local television station on Wednesday night, August 26, 2026, Osotsi accused the government of attempting to frustrate the movement.

“I can tell you for sure that the government is out to frustrate us. Kenyans can see for themselves,” Osotsi said.

He questioned why the government would be concerned about Linda Mwananchi if it genuinely believed the movement lacked a serious political plan.

“They have said several times that we are planless, we are clueless, and we don’t have brains,” he said.

Osotsi argued that such claims should mean the government has little reason to fear the movement.

“But if that is the case, then why are you worried about us? Why don’t you just give us our name?” he asked.

Linda Mwananchi Has Alternative Options

The Vihiga senator said the movement had prepared alternative plans should its preferred name fail to receive official approval.

“And in the event they don’t give us our name, I can tell you we have many options,” he said.

The registration dispute has become a major issue for Linda Mwananchi as its leaders seek to transform the movement’s growing grassroots mobilisation into a formal political vehicle ahead of the 2027 elections.

The movement has been exploring alternative political parties while continuing to pursue its preferred identity through the relevant legal processes.

Osotsi said Linda Mwananchi was well equipped to navigate the challenge because of the political experience within its leadership.

“We have leaders who are very experienced in matters of political parties,” he said.

He cited former ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, his own experience as former ANC Secretary General and his involvement in the formation of the NASA coalition.

Osotsi also pointed to Siaya Governor James Orengo as another senior political figure within the movement with extensive experience in political affairs.

Osotsi Confident of 2027 Strategy

The senator maintained that Linda Mwananchi had already developed a strategy around the alternative names being considered.

“Some of the names that you are floating around could be there, but we have a strategy around it,” he said.

His remarks come as the movement continues nationwide mobilisation while its preferred political identity faces legal and administrative hurdles.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding its registration, Osotsi expressed confidence that Linda Mwananchi would remain a competitive political force ahead of the 2027 General Election.
