East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP David Ole Sankok has reaffirmed his earlier prediction that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino will eventually become Kenya’s first president from the Luo community.
Speaking during a K24 TV breakfast show on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Sankok recalled making the prediction in 2018, when former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was still alive. He maintained that his forecast was not influenced by the political circumstances that existed at the time.
Sankok said he continues to believe that his prediction will eventually be borne out, identifying Babu Owino as the politician he expects to rise to the presidency from Luo Nyanza.
Babu Owino Named as Future President
Sankok was categorical in repeating his forecast, saying Babu Owino would be the first person from Luo Nyanza to occupy Kenya’s highest office.
However, the EALA MP was quick to separate the prediction from active political support for the Embakasi East legislator. He stressed that he was not campaigning for Owino despite his confidence in the MP’s future political prospects.
Sankok Warns UDA of Possible Third Force
During the interview, Sankok also recalled another political forecast he said he had made within his UDA party.
He claimed he had previously cautioned President William Ruto and other members of the ruling party against assuming that the 2027 General Election would simply become a contest between the government and the United Opposition.
According to Sankok, he had warned that a separate political force could emerge and significantly alter the shape of the 2027 contest.
Political Landscape Ahead of 2027
Sankok’s remarks come as political parties and individual leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with alliances and possible alternative political formations continuing to attract attention.
His prediction about Babu Owino adds to the growing political debate over potential presidential contenders and the future leadership of Kenya.
