PLP Party leader Martha Karua has stepped up her criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing the Kenya Kwanza government of failing to protect fundamental rights and uphold the rule of law.
In a statement posted on X on Friday, September 4, 2026, Karua alleged that Kenyans had endured cases of abductions, intimidation, extrajudicial killings and impunity under the current administration.
She warned that the government should not assume it can continue governing through what she described as fear and intimidation.
‘Days in Power Are Numbered’
Karua said the Kenya Kwanza administration should recognise that its time in government was limited, particularly if it continued relying on what she characterised as oppressive tactics.
She insisted that citizens deserve a government committed to protecting their rights and ensuring that the law is respected.
Security and Protection of Citizens
The former Justice Minister made the remarks while addressing concerns surrounding national security and the safety of Kenyans.
Karua argued that protecting citizens and their property should be among the primary responsibilities of any government, warning against approaches that undermine public confidence in security institutions and the rule of law.
Karua Steps Up Opposition Criticism
Her latest statement adds to her sustained criticism of the Ruto administration as political activity builds ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Karua has continued positioning herself within the opposition space, with governance, accountability, human rights and security emerging as central themes in her criticism of the government.
