Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s bid for the presidency, questioning whether the Linda Mwananchi Movement candidate has a clear plan for Kenya.
Speaking on Friday, September 4, 2026, Kindiki accused Sifuna of relying heavily on political rallies and public gatherings without presenting what he described as a comprehensive development agenda for the country.
The Deputy President argued that attracting large crowds should not automatically be interpreted as having the support required to win an election.
‘Crowds Are Not Votes’
Kindiki made the remarks while addressing more than 30,000 United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots leaders at Kinoru Stadium in Meru.
He described Sifuna as a politician who was moving around the country addressing crowds without, in his view, clearly explaining his agenda for Kenya.
Kindiki warned opposition figures that the government was not concerned by their growing political activities and predicted a tough contest when Kenyans head to the ballot in 2027.
Warning to Gachagua
The Deputy President also directed a warning at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, cautioning against what he described as efforts to sponsor politicians to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Kindiki said the government would not be intimidated by emerging opposition figures or political formations seeking to gain ground ahead of the 2027 General Election.
UDA Mobilises Ahead of 2027
Kindiki’s address to UDA grassroots officials comes as the ruling party strengthens its structures and increases mobilisation activities ahead of the next general election.
The remarks also underline the growing political contest between the Kenya Kwanza administration and opposition figures, including Sifuna and allies associated with Gachagua’s political camp.
